A patient's personal information is considered to be "protected" by the convention of confidentiality.
Businesses must obtain the individual’s consent when they collect, use or disclose personal information. However, this consent is distinct from the consent to treatment. Collecting information directly from the patient solely for the purpose of providing services to the patient, consent may be implied.
Use and disclosure of this information requires the patients informed consent.
Patients have the right to check their personal information and correct any inaccuracies.
