The Interior
The kitchen has a great view of Necum Teuch Bay. In the above photo the water damage to the back porch is evident. The only plaster reconstruction will be here in the kitchen because of the removal the original cabinets. The rest of the house just needs scraping and a coat of paint. The elements for the stove are missing, too.
The other water damaged place is in the dining room. It's porch roof leaks where it meets the exterior wall of the front of the house. We tarred this the best we could this past fall. It will have to be looked at more seriously next summer. The sofa is burnt.
This area has the most work needed. The front window was a double glass slider; it's now a single glass. The oak floor has rotted from the moisture retained by the rug; I don't know about the sub-floor yet, but it looks solid from the basement. The ceiling needs insulating, vapour barrier, and plastering (gyprock).
This view of the main hall shows back into the kitchen on the left, the stairwell to the basement, the front door porch, and the parlour. The parlour and bathroom doors are missing. The floor grate was for the furnace, which is also gone.
The upstairs has faired better. The walls are in good shape but they need scraping and paint. At least all the doors are there, but not all the knobs.
There are four bedrooms and a large walk-in closet on the second floor. Each room has an intact oil cloth floor covering and 1925 newspapers as underlay.
Apparently, this was the unofficial party house. We're guessing this by the empty beer bottles, soiled mattresses and that this room stank of human urine. After the rug was thrown out the smell went too. Since there's no electricity at the moment, we don't know if the television works.
