Basic Lab ¬ Indican test ( urinary malabsorption test )This test checks to see how efficiently your digestion is working by measuring Indican (using Obermeyer’s reagent) which is a chemical made by the body when there is decomposition in the intestines.
The test is important for fine tuning all aspects of digestion, as well as being useful for those with the following symptoms or health issues; systemic yeast, slow digestion, allergies, history of constipation or diarrhea, skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, bad breath, bowel gas, consumption of fast food.
Plus, those people who have used drugs for heartburn or who suspect their stomach acid to be low, who chronically use digestive enzymes, fatigue after eating, abnormally low or high appetite, who adhere to a high protein diet, have diverticulitis, IBS and gall bladder issues.
A positive test result tells us that
Score results are as follows:
- there is incomplete digestion of protein,
- friendly bacteria population is low and bacteria that cause putrefaction is high and
- there is an issue with bowel permeability ("leaky gut").
If your score indicates that you have malabsorption, retest in 4- 6 weeks after the appropriate treatments have been used. A negative test does not necessarily mean digestion is perfect.
- = Negative
- = Trace General mild digestive support is needed
- = Mild There is mild dybiosis present and stronger work with the digestion is required
- & 4 = Dysbiosis More aggressive supplement and nutritional changes are needed for support.
