Basic Lab ¬ Hormone Testing

Hormones can be tested, by use of a saliva sample, in combination or separately. Saliva is a highly accurate way of testing hormonal imbalance because it measures the amount of hormone that your body is using; whereas, a blood test is only able to measure how much you are making.

Some Definitions:

  • Cortisol is made by the adrenal glands especially during times of stress, too much cortisol, among other things, can increase the fat around your middle and suppress immune function

  • DHEA-S is the mother of all other hormones, including estrogen and testosterone

  • Estrone and Estriol are 2 forms of estrogen not tested otherwise under the Basic panels
