Basic Lab ¬ Diascreen 10 test ( reagent strips for urinalysis )

The test strips measure urobilinogen, glucose, ketone, bilirubin, protein, nitrite, leukocytes, blood, pH and specific gravity. Each item is a different square on the test strip; each with its own value scale.

People who may want to have this test performed; those concerned that they may have a urinary tract infection, yeast overgrowth, allergies, liver function inefficiency, those who want to test the pH of their urine and those who want to assure that glucose is not spilling into their urine.

Normal for all tests except for the Specific gravity and pH is negative. Specific Gravity and pH are assigned a numerical value.

  • Urobilinogen - Positive indicates compromised conjugation of bilirubin, which often stems from inefficient liver function.

  • Glucose - Positive indicates a glucose spill which is either from diabetes or allergies

  • Ketones - Positive indicates that your energy is from fat break down, rather than carbohydrates. You may want to adjust your dietary habits to include more snacks or carbohydrates.

  • Bilirubin - Positive indicates hemoglobin destruction. Blood may be present in the urine.

  • Protein - Positive indicates renal inflammation, allergies or presence of blood in the urine.

  • Nitrite - Positive indicates presence of gram- negative bacteria. Seek the advice of a doctor as soon as possible for treatment.

  • Leukocytes - Positive indicates allergies or presence of bacteria or a yeast overgrowth. If nitrites also show with this test, it is a bacterial issue.

  • Blood - Positive indicates infection, hypertension or menses. It is common for some post- menopausal women to have trace blood in the urine.

  • pH - normal is considered to be 6.0- 6.4. Although there are thoughts that 6- 7 is optimal as a more alkaline body is less capable of becoming ill. pH above 7 is considered too alkaline and may have an infection. pH below is acidic and may indicate acidic or high protein diet, digestive and absorption issues, scurvy or gout.

  • Specific Gravity - Normal is 1.015. lower = high water intake, specimen is not concentrated enough, low mineral intake, higher= dehydration or increased salt intake
If any of your scores indicate imbalance, retest in 4- 6 weeks after the appropriate treatment has been implemented.
